X Factor's Kerry McGregor loses battle with cancer

Scottish singing star Kerry McGregor, who rose to fame after competing in 2006's run of The X Factor has died of cancer aged 37. 

She made it through to the final 10 and performed alongside Leona Lewis, who went on to be crowned the winner of season 3, but it was announced last night (January 4) that tragically she had lost her battle with bladder cancer and has passed away. 

The wheelchair-bound vocalist was due to record a duet with Susan Boyle this year and had won the hearts of many with her fantastic talent, and former X Factor panelists have taken to social networking site Twitter to pay their respects. 

Sharon Osbourne wrote, "So sad about Kerry McGregor's passing. Much love and respect to her and her family" and music mogul Simon Cowell added, "I just heard the sad news about Kerry McGregor. I really admired Kerry and my thoughts now go out to all of her family & friends."

A statement from McGregor's management company explained:

"It is with deep sadness we announce that Kerry passed away at home, earlier today following a battle with cancer. At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
