Melanie Masson becomes second X-Factor contestant to be eliminated

Melanie Masson tonight became the second contestant to be eliminated from The X-Factor.

The Scottish singer, who performed INXS’ ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ last night found herself in the bottom two alongside boyband District 3, who received mixed comments for their cover of All 4 One’s ‘I Swear.’

Following Melanie’s rendition of Lorraine Ellison's ‘Stay With Me Baby’ and District 3’s take on Bryan Adams’ chart-topper, ‘Everything I Do, I Do It For You,’ in the sing-off, both Gary and Louis chose to save their own acts.

But after Tulisa voted for District 3 and Nicole sent it to deadlock, Melanie was announced by Dermot O’Leary as the act with the fewest votes, becoming the second finalist to be sent home following Carolynne Poole’s controversial exit last week.

Before the results, all the contestants covered Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know,’ Rebecca Ferguson sang her new single, ‘Backtrack,’ while Taylor Swift performed her Top 5 hit ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’
