This highly original artist always produces unique, thoughtful music infused with melody and a style that is entirely his own. In a live setting he always provides an eclectic and energetic show and takes time to explain the underlying meaning of his unique songs to involve his audience in the performance. Ronan’s last single ‘The Silver Torc’ was chosen by Irish hero MMA fighter Richard quotes: "I am a huge fan of Ronan Furlong's music and I am honoured that he allowed me to use his song for my walkout music. I needed a song that would match the fierce energy and fervour that the Irish crowd bring. When I heard The Silver Torc, I instantly knew I had found that song. After the opening chords hit, the song blew the roof off the 3Arena!"
"Furlong has a style that is unique and certainly makes him stand out on the contemporary singer-songwriter scene. He has been writing and playing music for over 30 years and over that period has produced a broad repertoire of extremely original, thought provoking music. He is also a renowned guitarist who can play a diverse range of styles. The hallmarks of his music are refreshingly unique lyrics, strong melodies, committed vocal style and skilful guitar playing which compliments the underlying song.
His love for traditional Irish music (and Rory Gallagher) led him towards open style tunings (which he uses a lot in his solo performances). His friend and fellow guitarist, Conor Lupton, introduced him to a range of different tunings, some of which work very well with the eastern influences which Ronan embraces and which are also present in the music of his hero, Andy Irvine. Ronan has a diverse and eclectic range of musical influences ranging from Deep Purple, Queen, Andy Irvine/Paul Brady, Leonard Cohen, Rainbow, Liam Clancy, Radiohead, Richard Thompson, AC/DC, Jason Becker, Rory Gallagher, Yes, Luke Kelly, Black Sabbath, Rush, and the Beatles. Ronan plays and writes all of the music on his recordings and typically performs unaccompanied with just a guitar and a microphone in a live setting. All of his recordings have been produced and mastered by musician/producer Michael “Mick” Egan - one of the most respected figures on the music scene in Southeast Ireland and a key collaborator with many Irish acts. He reads extensively and is very interested in classical history and philosophy (Greece and Rome in particular as is apparent from his lyrics). He feels that many of the lessons and themes that emerge from these ancient writings are as relevant today as they were 2,000 years ago. He takes great care with his lyrics and it can take him up to a year to finalise the lyrics for a song. He will only commit to a final lyric when he is comfortable that the song adequately captures the underlying message that he wishes to convey.
