U2 to headline Glastonbury Festival

U2 have been confirmed to headline at this year's Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

The band will take the stage on Friday, June 24 and the event's organiser, Michael Eavis, explained:

"After the disappointment of U2 being unable to play last year, we're now doubly excited at the prospect of the Friday night supergroup breaking the sound barrier,"

Glastonbury took home the prize for Best Festival at last night's (February 23) NME Awards ceremony in London, and shortly after the title was presented U2 gave a video speech and guitarist The Edge said:

"I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage,"

"So, we're all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off."

"We're so excited to get to play in front of the world's greatest festival audience. We'll see you there!"
