TORONTO R&B SINGER J-SOUL RELEASES FIRST SINGLE ON CASH MONEY RECORDS

Video for “TORONTO PLAZA MOTEL” Available Now. Watch below.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Cash Money Records and the newly signed Toronto R&B singer and songwriter J-Soul releases the cinematic video for his debut single, “Toronto Plaza Motel.   Watch the video HERE.

On the song, J-Soul’s dynamic crooning and delicate rapping coast over an airy and cinematic soundscape that’s equally lush and lively. He paints an honest and emotional portrait of longing and loss on the streets of his hometown.

Underneath Toronto’s skyscraper canopy, J-Soul couldn’t even claim a home address just six months ago. Of Jamaican descent and Canadian-born, he began making music at just 10-years-old. Quietly honing what he appropriately dubs a ‘Sad Soul’ sound, he attracted a budding fan base with the release of his independent EP, November Twelve, and the darkly powerful video for “Toronto Plaza Motel.
“I call it ‘Sad Soul,’ because I want my music to touch souls,” he says. “I only sing about my experiences. I lived in that hotel, and I was going through a lot at that time. I was surrounded by crack-heads, prostitutes, and people with no hope. Because I had no home, I had to move in there. I put everything on the line to make music. I’d never left Toronto until “Slim” called. I realized if you’re real, you can make something happen. This is a dream come true.”

Off the strength of this underground nocturnal anthem, Cash Money Records co-founder and C.E.O. Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams personally reached out to J-Soul after a fan landed the music onto the label’s radar. “Above all, J-Soul is different. He’s real. I could see that he’s special, and we wanted him as part of our family. He truly doesn’t sound like anybody else out there, and he’s going to make Toronto very proud,” states Ronald ‘Slim’Williams.

Co-founder and C.E.O. Bryan “Birdman” Williams aka Baby adds, “Sometimes, you really can hear the future. That’s what I felt the moment I listened to J-Soul’s music. He’s a born star with a message and timeless sound he’s bringing R&B from the gutters to the high rises.”
Now, J-Soul is ready to usher R&B into the future.
