90s R&B classic ‘No Scrubs’ given an irresistible bilingual reinvention!

Back in the 90’s the trio of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas aka TLC owned the 90s! They left an indelible mark on the face of the musical landscape of that era with instantly recognizable classics like the global hits ‘Waterfalls’, ‘Unpretty’, ‘Creep’ and the multiplatinum smash single ‘No Scrubs’. Their brand of R&B was edgy and raw but its honesty struck a chord with hundreds of millions of fans around the world – as their 20+ million selling albums CrazySexyCool (1994) and Fanmail (1999) showed. And that emotion remains even today with a new generation of fans. Fusing a 90s reinvention with a spicy Latin twist, emerging production duo Dropout have teamed up with sixteen-year-old Cuban born vocalist, Wendy Sarmiento (of La Banda and La Voz Kids fame), to create their own sultry twist on the trio’s iconic “crazy, sexy, cool” classic.

The song delivers a sassy contemporary flare, with a soaring vocal performance and an infectious beat infused with soft and melodic guitars. These striking pop elements bring ‘No Scrubs’ into 2017, while Wendy Sarmiento’s vocal delivery alternates between Spanish and English, paying homage to the original by keeping the chorus intact whilst bringing a Latin flavour to remainder of the song, giving listeners a bilingual twist on this popular 90’s R&B jam! Complementing the final mix is Dropout’s production that shines by fusing indie acoustics, pop structures, and electronic stylings together to create an effortless pop gem.

Tutored by famed Mexican artist Roberto Tapia's (of chart-topping ‘El Muchacho’ fame) during her time on La Voz Kids, Wendy Sarmiento maturity as vocalist since her debut on the show is something that shows great potential for her years. Song collaborators Dropout (aka Ethan Davis and Ray Nowak) have found their own path over the past three years with successful releases on labels such as Armada Music, Thrive Music and Big Beat with their infectious hit ‘Slowly’ - that reached #1 on the Spotify US Viral Chart and #2 on the Global Viral. Their music consistently receives DJ support from heavy hitters that include Oliver Heldens, Don Diablo, The Magician, Robin Schulz, Sam Feld, and The Chainsmokers, as well as having secured numerous #1’s on the Hype Machine.

With 90’s reinvention a hot trend right now combined with the insatiable passion for Latin music, this re-rub of one of the biggest US girl bands of all time is something that has enough chemistry to become an irresistible hit!
