Some artists seem to come into the world fully formed, emerging seemingly out of thin air with a raw talent that you can’t help but get excited by. Lily Moore is one such artist. The 19-year-old singer/songwriter bursts onto the scene already emanating a clear soul beyond her years. Her rich vocals as well as a coolly frank lyricism pays tribute to her beginnings busking in Brighton - it’s a talent that's taken her from obscurity to supporting Tom Grennan on his national tour last year in the space of only two years.

Born in London but raised in Brighton, Lily would keep an early taste for inner-city, soulful masters of their crafts like Etta James, Lauryn Hill and Sam Cook. Meanwhile Lily’s own songwriting has developed into a disarmingly stripped-back style that recalls the youthful wryness and thick-skinned power of a young Amy Winehouse or Lianne La Havas.

‘Not That Special’ is the first taste from Lily’s forthcoming debut EP, coming out early Spring this year via Closer Recordings/Virgin EMI. A gorgeous, city-trodden yet curiously uplifting track about finding someone. Already her pure soul potential is clearly there, mixed in with a personality and a young charisma that’s gloriously rare for someone just coming out of their teens. The visual for ‘Not That Special’ reflects this, shot with a cast of her friends and is available to watch here.

The video was filmed in my hometown of Brighton, hanging out with friends. All people in the video are mates who I grew up with. I can’t act or dance but we managed to capture the song just by us doing our own thing’ Lily says.

Lily is similarly precocious on the social scene, having started her own club night and residency called More Moore at Mau Mau (her first night saw Tom Grennan, Etham & Plested all on the bill) in-between writing and recording in the studio. The second night of her residency will be announced end of February with an exciting line up. Lily rounded off the year playing festivals including Boardmasters, The Great Escape and Barn on the Farm. This Spring she embarks on a sold out tour, supporting Vance Joy (kicking off 9th March) and the forthcoming George Ezra tour (starting 29th March).

‘Not That Special’, produced by Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys), is a remarkably poised and honest statement of ambition from an artist you’ll be hearing much more from in 2018.
