“Not just a pretty face – sorry” - TimeOut

This year has been a busy one for Hong Kong-born Eurasian DJ Janette Slack. She has finished her debut album, a driving dance LP drawing influence from rock, electro and breakbeat with lashes of sexy vocals and Re - Rubs of Meat Katie & D Ramirez. The album is a window onto the glam-sleaze dancefloor of London’s world-famous fetish night Torture Garden, where Janette has rocked a six-year residency.

To celebrate her return to the studio after a year away writing the album, Janette is releasing new single ‘Girl in Black’ which has been remixed by Kickflip, The Preset Warriors, Fabian (formally known as Canine Sounds) and Australian artist Spin FX.

She has hosted the International Breakbeat Awards twice, taking over from Annie Nightingale in 2008, and toured the world DJing in places like Kuala LumpaAustralia, Spain, Germany, Russia, Portugal and Croatia. In January 2010, Janette won the Pink Armada European Female DJ competition, and A couple months later, she starred in a short documentary on her life, filmed and aired by Hong Kong's BBC equivalent, TVB Pearl.

One of dance music's most charismatic young figures - London clubbers will be familiar with her turning up to gigs on her infamous roller skates - Janette is a breath of fresh air in the club scene. When she's not doing the international DJ thing, Janette stars in photoshoots with London's edgiest independent designers, who love her Sex Pistols style and twisted burlesque attitude. She frequently works with one of London’s hottest makeup and hair designers, Sammm Agnew, and designers  Lady Lucie Latex, Japanese label Kaori's Latex Dreams, and the venerable Stu Vern of Murray and Vern. You can also catch Janette on the TV, on SKY1 test-driving a range of DJ equipment for its new Gadget Geeks show.

Album singles ‘You Can’t Stop This’ (a collaboration with Kickflip and Channel 4’s Phone Shop star Javone Prince) and ‘Slave to System’, (with Tyrrell, producer of Sasha’s Miami hit ‘Lalalalalala’ and 90s band PM dawn) are due for release later this year on her own new label ‘Slack Trax’.
