Band Spotlight: SEEP AWAYCheck out this latest band spotlight on Yorkshire hardcore punks, SEEP AWAY. Here, the group's drummer Dom Smith talks us through what inspires the music.
I'm Dom, and I hit things in SEEP AWAY with little to no skill whatsoever, then we've got Max Watt on vocals and guitar, Dani Barge on bass and Jay Sillence on vocals, and sometimes...triangle!
A tonne of stuff; punk and metal music, mainly - we like Black Flag, Bongripper and existential dread. We're inspired by people in our lives, mostly people who have a negative impact on us.
Err, we've got a few more shows to close out this year - check out - and then we're gonna be writing new material, because it's definitely time we write some new shit.
'Snakes' was inspired by a questionable individual in our guitarist and vocalist, Max's life [Max writes a tonne of the band's lyrics and riffs], he's a fucking genius, but he's inspired by some pretty dark stuff - I think in general it can be related to anyone who's been fucked over by a person at work, an ex-girlfriend or whatever. It's an anti-anthem of sorts!
Find bandmates that share your passion, and that have equal goals - if you wanna tour, find other people that wanna tour with you, and do as much touring as you want to! Also, make time to hang out with your bandmates, you gotta be friends if you're gonna do so much together! Also, pool money in together so you can book local shows for yourselves when you start out, and later get a press agent, and maybe a booking agent too! Also, make music because you love it, man - not because you want to please other people! Some people are gonna like you, and some people aren't, that's just the way it is - so long as you like the music that you're putting out, that's what matters!
