Warner Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, has signed a worldwide publishing deal with singer, songwriter, film composer and visual artist Daniel Blumberg.

Blumberg’s first feature length film score for The World To Come (dir. Mona Fastvold) has been nominated for Best Original Film Score at this year’s Ivor Novellos. It was also ranked number one in Indiewire’s 2021 list of Best Film Scores.

This year he has been commissioned to compose the score to the forthcoming feature film The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet. Previously he has worked with directors including Lynne Ramsay and Peter Strickland, and was commissioned by the BFI to compose the music for the Agnès Varda film season Gleaning Truths.

Blumberg has released two solo albums on Mute Records, 2018’s Minus and 2020’s On&On. He is currently writing and recording his third solo album for Mute.

Daniel Blumberg said: “I’m really happy to be working with Ayla and the team at Warner Chappell Music in this new chapter of my career. I'm looking forward to developing my practice as a songwriter and composer over the coming years, starting with a new solo album and some upcoming film projects.”

Ayla Owen, VP, European Synchronisation, Warner Chappell Music, added: “I’ve been a massive fan of Daniel’s work for years so I’m absolutely thrilled that he’s joined the Warner Chappell Music family. His exceptional experience as a recording artist, songwriter and composer position him perfectly for the world of Sync and bespoke score. His hugely promising and Ivor Novello nominated film score debut for A World To Come is just the tip of the iceberg for Daniel. We couldn’t be more delighted to represent his unique talent at Warner Chappell Music and we’re very excited about what the future has in store for him!”

Following on from last year’s signing of multi-instrumentalist, rising jazz star Emma-Jean Thackray, Blumberg will also be working closely with Warner Chappell Music via their recently launched bespoke score and neoclassical initiative, WCM Neo, with a view to develop, grow and amplify his cutting-edge score offering.

Blumberg has collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians over the course of his career including Peter Brötzmann, Josephine Foster, Keiji Haino, Low and Jim White, and was previously the lead singer and songwriter in the bands Yuck and Cajun Dance Party.

On top of his musical career, Blumberg is a prolific visual artist who has exhibited at Kunsthal Rotterdam, Deichtorhallen Hamburg and MACRO Rome.
