Will.i.am thinks music merchandise should incorporate 3D printing

Will.i.am believes there is a place for 3D printing in music merchandising.

The singer is a keen advocate of advanced technology and he suggested to the BBC that merchandise, especially at concerts, is going stale.

He offered the idea of using 3D printing to take snapshots of acts playing live, which would then be sent to the merch stand and being printed out.

The Voice UK coach said: "The merch booth hasn't changed since The Grateful Dead or The Rolling Stones. Enter the 3D printer. Now you will be able to print 3D images and objects from that night. Now you go see Lady Gaga in concert. There's not just lights onstage, but scanners and she does some crazy pose. You capture that moment and print her."

The US star meanwhile is due to feature on The Voice as it makes its return to British screens on Saturday (January 11).
