Will.i.Am and Britney Spears lead midweek update on singles chart

The UK's No.1 single has today (January 9) been confirmed as 'Scream & Shout' by Will.i.Am and Britney Spears after it climbed to the top spot.

The pair's collaborative offering, which is 5,000 copies ahead of its closest competitor, has been in the top 3 since its release 5 weeks ago, but has only just managed to beat James Arthur's 'Impossible', which is now at No.2.

Meanwhile, 'I Knew You Were Trouble' by Taylor Swift has climbed to No.3 after a week of being in the press following her supposed split from One Direction's Harry Styles, which also led to sales of the boyband's tickets for their world tour rising by 50%.

Elsewhere in the Top 40, Ellie Goulding's 'Anything Can Happen' has risen an impressive 18 places to No.18, One Direction's 'Kiss You' is now at 14 thanks to the release of the track's music video yesterday (January 8), and Rihanna's 'Stay' is up 3 to No.4.
