CLOUD NOTHINGS REVEAL SURREAL NEW VIDEOAnimated video for 'Stay Useless', taken from the album 'Attack on Memory'“A terrific step forward” 4/5 The Guardian “Clanking, zippy riffs, barrelling minor-key pianos and drawn out, churning progressions employed like sturdy joists” 8/10 NME “Breathless, fuzz-pedal assisted energy” 4/5 Q Magazine “One of the first must-hears of 2012” 8/10 Drowned in Sound
Since releasing ‘Attack on Memory’ earlier this year to a wave of enthusiastic reviews, Cloud Nothings have been preparing themselves for a jaunt across Europe that’ll see them stop off in London, Leeds and Glasgow and calling in at Brighton’s Great Escape on the way. The band has also unveiled the brilliantly surreal video for ‘Stay Useless’ and you can watch it below. Complete with an oversized angry ape and an action figure with wizard-like powers, director and producer Jack Kubizne’s animated video follows a boy on his way to school on the trusty American school bus, for it only to be taken over my magical powers and take him off to faraway lands. If anyone remember the children’s books and series ‘The Magic School Bus’, then you may see some similarities here. As for the track, ‘Stay Useless’ shows Cloud Nothings at their angsty best, and with a video that focuses on the mundanity of school life and the need for escapism, it resonates with anyone that remembers feeling a little out of place during their adolescence.
