Pink Floyd's Scott Page Invites 12 Year Old Ukulele Virtuoso Feng E to "Nights After NAMM" 1/16/20

On January 16th, the first night after NAMM, (the largest music industry convention on the planet), Think:Floyd Experience will be making orgasmic musical history at "Nights After NAMM". Empower Logic Studios and Think:EXP will present "An all-star- studded concert exploration of the music and ideas of Pink Floyd."

This after hours rock n Roll celebrity event will be held at the Highway Event Center from 6:00 pm to 2:00 AM, and will benefit the "Watts Conservatory of Music", a Los Angeles based nonprofit which seeks to bring joy and positive artistic development through learning and playing musical instruments to the community of Watts, all free of charge.

Aside from Pink Floyd's Scott Page, some of the featured superstars invited and already confirmed are Think: EXP's Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction, Tony Franklin from The Firm, and Whitesnake, Kenny Olson from Kid Rock's Twisted Brown Trucker Band, Derek Day from Think:EXP, Roberta Freeman from Pink Floyd, and Will Champlin from The Voice. Grammy nominated band, The Hailers, will also be on board as well as guitar master Ray Goren, Fabrizzio Grossi, and Shankar, who has performed with everyone from Frank Zappa to Jon Davidson.

Through his deep insight and history of mentoring young artists Page came across 12 year old Ukulele prodigy, Feng E and has invited him to play with Think:EXP and become one of the featured guests at "Nights After NAMM."

Feng E, the Taiwanese Ukulele Master began playing at age 5 because his father was told that his finger development was slow. Feng E's dad introduced him to the ukulele and while he resisted learning his father's threat of never playing LEGO with him convinced him otherwise. Now at age 12, Feng E has won competitions all over the world, has a video of himself playing "Classical Gas" with over 20 million views, has reached the finals in "Asia's Got Talent", and has appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." He has mastered 5 instruments and is on his way to NAMM to represent a major ukulele company, and of course has been invited to perform with Think:EXP as one of the featured guests at "Night's After NAMM."

I Skyped an interview from Taiwan with the young virtuoso and Scott Page, two of the best musicians on the globe regarding their upcoming performance......

How long have you been playing the ukulele and what inspired you to start?

Feng E: Six years. My father said if I don't play, he wouldn't play LEGO with me.

Does your dad play also and did he teach you?

Feng E: Yes. I have another teacher too.

How did you learn all of the Pink Floyd songs?

Feng E:  Sometimes I go on YouTube and I just find the song, and then I just play it. That's it.

Do you write your own music too?

Feng E: Yes. I write my own songs.

You are going to the US to play with all of these amazingly famous musicians, are you nervous?

Feng E: No.

What is your favorite subject in school?

Feng E: I like it when there is no class at all.

A huge ukulele company is bringing you to the US to represent them for the biggest music convention on the planet, how did they find you?

Feng: I think on the Internet. I will be playing 4 times a day at NAMM.

Scott how did you find Feng E, and what was your reaction?

Scott: He popped up on my Instagram. I started listening to him play and I was blown away because he's not only a great player but he's very sophisticated. It's not just the notes he plays but it's the soul behind it. He has an old soul. He has the understanding and the sophistication that you would find in somebody that had 40 years of playing behind him. It is crazy the arrangement he does, and he does that all himself. Another thing incredible about him is his timing is really good. He's like an old seasoned jazz player with his skills. I've gotta believe in reincarnation, there is just no way he could have all that understanding at 12 years old, he's just too good.

I feel like he's a great inspiration considering that this is a benefit for the Watts Conservatory of Music. He's kind of like an inspiration for the children wanting to learn an instrument. But your point of view?

Scott: He put it out there that he was going to be at NAMM this year and his evenings were free. I thought he'd be perfect because we are doing the benefit for the school, he was a real good fit, a young kid playing with us old guys. He's really a music prodigy no question.

I feel like you were a child prodigy playing with your father on the Lawrence Welk show at like six years old?

Scott: I had to work hard at it. I didn't have that perfect pitch. I wasn't that guy that could just pick it up and play anything. When I started playing in college, I was not that strong of a player. It was after Dave Paich and Jeff Porcaro that I decided to figure it out. I wish I had what that kid has, truthfully.

Can you explain why the Watts Conservatory of Music is so important.

Scott: Music is from my point of view is one of the most important things in society. What's happening now is music has been taken out of 50% of the schools. We're seeing a whole lot of kids not being exposed to classical music and jazz and all that more serious kind of music. Right now, I feel from societies point of view, it's really important that the Watts Conservatory of Music kind of starts to tackle that problem in a rough neighborhood that doesn't have access to all of this stuff. So, Flea and Norwood and David Moss are working behind it in a big way to get MUSIC into the hands of the kids in that community. It's just so sad that the kids are not exposed to music, and I really think it's important for society and culture.

What's in store for the people that come to see "Nights After NAMM?

Scott: This will be the third time we are doing this, the first time at the Highway 39 Event Center. . It's going to be a combination of the Think:Floyd show with special guests and an all-star guest jam at the end. We're going to have Feng as our featured guest. The venue is a vintage car exhibit with a main stage holding a 1000 guests.  We're going to take our 32 very successful sold out "Beyond The Wall" Floyd shows and bring it to Anaheim that night. We actually put our own twist and style to the music of Floyd. We play a little heavier and put our own spin on it. There will also be very special guests and Feng E.
