Talented New York artist Ybañez emerges with debut offering ‘Slushie’, an immersive and introspective slice of dark pop.

The multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer also announces his upcoming EP ‘Too Quiet’, out 2nd December via the artist run label Radio Silence.

With ‘Slushie’, the Texas-born creative comes into view with a highly accomplished sound, having honed his craft for a number years studying jazz piano and drums, and establishing himself as a prolific player in the New York live scene. A longtime creative collaborator, Ybañez then turned to production and ultimately discovered his own voice whilst focusing on his first entirely solo project throughout the lockdown.

The result is a heartfelt and tender exploration of the self, tackling complex emotions and mental health issues from more than one viewpoint. Ybañez takes us through the lyrical themes for Slushie in his own words… “Slushie is a song about introversion, disassociation, emotional compartmentalization and the blissful ignorance of living in your own bubble. It’s a story told from two perspectives - one in which you’re completely honest with yourself, your motivations and intentions and another in which you block out all the negative thoughts. For me, the latter is always easier and usually more fun… until it isn’t.”

Ybañez’ sonic pallet draws from ambient cinematic soundscapes and hazy synthesizers, with brooding vocals woven in, akin to the likes of James Blake and Moses Sumney. The upcoming project incorporates hints of jazz, indie, film score, soul and experimental electronic music, all threaded together by his melodic pop sensibilities.
