Devon is back with another big guitar pop banger, ‘WHY DO WE WAKE UP? (BEFORE THE GOOD BIT)’, now complete with a colourful new video.

The new single features the ever relatable lyrics, questioning reality and its terrible timing in the morning. After stirring from a good dream, Devon takes us through a tiresome daily routine in his typically charming and hook-laden way.

Devon explains… “It loosely takes inspiration from my days getting up for a day job I hated. It talks about how I was feeling at the time, where I was in life and how I didn't feel like I was going anywhere. It's not a very common theme in pop music as it's such a mundane thing, but that’s the kind of stuff that I love to write about!”

The track lands at a time when so many can relate to the feeling of the endless daily cycles. Waking up to another day in lockdown, working from home, and scrolling through a stream of fake news and conspiracies - much like those explored in Devon’s video for previous single ‘TRUST ISSUES’. ‘WHY DO WE WAKE UP?’ sums up the current feeling on one hand, whilst serving up a medicinal dose of feel good indie pop with the other.

As well as being accompanied by an equally bold video by MTV VMA-nominated director Lewis Cater, the track will also be released soon on limited edition 7” vinyl and available for free in independent record stores across the country - the first time Devon’s music has been made available in physical form. Devon adds… “I’m excited for fans all around the UK to race out and get them for free! It’s like a giant Easter egg hunt but with records, watch this space for details…”

‘WHY DO WE WAKE UP? (BEFORE THE GOOD BIT)’ is co-produced by Bad Sounds, in a collaboration that follows on from the Bath band’s groove-laden remix of ‘TRUST ISSUES’ earlier in the summer. Bad Sounds perfectly complement Devon’s trademark shimmering guitars and bouncy pop hooks with a distinct percussive flair and similar love for funky psych influences.

Devon says on his relationship with the band.. “As well as the remix I’ve also done some songwriting with Ewan and Callum before, so we’re at a point where we can be really comfortable and honest with each other in the studio. We get along great, and being from the South West we’re all very used to being outsiders when it comes to the London-centric music industry.”

As well as spending time writing and producing with others from his home in the Forest of Dean (F.O.D.), Devon has spent the summer of no events making friends online. Discovering a love for TikTok, Devon has found fans for his music and style in far flung places, impressively developing a US listener-base exceeding that of his home country. Likewise on Triller, Devon has been one of the first indie artists from the UK to make waves on the app.

Today’s new single adds to a potent run of big hitting singles over the past 12 months including, ‘BELONG 2 U’ and ‘I DON’T WANT 2 B UR FRIEND’, all released through Universal Music On Demand. Devon has now hit over a million streams on Spotify alone and is bolstered by support from Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1, as well as MTV, DIY, Clash, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, trmw and Brooklyn Vegan.
