Leeds singer/songwriter Jake Whiskin has returned with stunning new single 'Slow Motion', listen below.

Likened to Phoebe Bridgers, Whiskin crafts affecting, almost emo inspired alt-folk rock, and has amassed acclaim in the north of England with his definitive and unique sound, playing soaring melodies against dark, resonant subject matter and cathartic vocal delivery.

Constantly developing where his music sits sonically, Whiskin's new material draws further inspiration from his American heroes whilst still keeping things immensely personal, offering a heartfelt account of his northern upbringing with seamless emotional outpour and transcendent instrumentation. This beautiful and unexpected clash of cultures informs his sound and offers an insight into what's to come this year.

'Slow Motion' is a step on from Whiskin's earlier work, playing more into his confessional, US influenced side. Uplifting vocal melodies gloriously juxtapose melancholic subject matter and an immersive instrumental backdrop, as Whiskin looks to the future and realises "if i cant break away from my past then it will always hold me back".

'Slow Motion' is Jake Whiskin's first release of 2021, and the start of what promises to be a huge year for the singer/songwriter.

About

After trading Sunday League football for sifting through his Dad’s record collection; Leeds singer-songwriter Jake Whiskin quickly taught himself to play guitar and formed an early obsession with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and later the staple Americana of Neil Young and Tom Petty.

Anchored in a melancholy that feels introspective but relatable there's a bittersweet world view that echoes those formative alt-rock heroes. Jake’s music glistens with the production and mix of collaborator Lee Smith (Easy Life / Holly Humberstone), touching on stories of loss, love and escapism. Born in Leeds, but raised by proxy by America his songs hit a unique sweet spot of being despondent, picturesque and cathartic all at the same time.
