James Beng Lee - 'Hopes and Dreams' Single & Video - Released June 3rd
James Beng Lee
'Hope and Dreams'
James Beng Lee, born in Sydney to Malaysian-Chinese parents, smiles as he reflects on his ‘tiger’ parenting. It almost turned him off music, but thankfully he picked up a guitar at 20 and his love for music was revived. This self taught guitarist/singer is heavily influenced by the pop and RnB of the 90’s, delivering his own version of acoustic pop/hip hop. The upcoming debut album, “Hopes and Dreams”, is full of great melodies, catchy hooks and ambiguous, inspirational lyrics for your soul.
Produced by Sven Tydeman from Kittygroove studios in Sydney. Sven says, “Working with James was such a great experience. He is such a passionate guy, calm, focused and driven. I think all of that is reflected in his music.”
James’ influences are clear in his songwriting, with a love for strong melody, lyrics and lush hooks, you can tell he grew up listening to old school RnB/hip hop: Boyz II Men, New Edition, Brian McKnight and Black Street. His music is a fusion of pop and hip hop. “Acoustic pop/hip hop” in James’ words.
James’ lyrics focus on what he calls the, ‘vertical-horizontal dilemma’. “I am constantly intrigued by humanity’s interaction with God (‘the vertical’) and our interaction with each other (‘the horizontal’),” says James.
