Adam Lambert begins American Idol mentor role

Adam Lambert's return to American Idol has started to air in the US.

The singer, who finished runner-up on the show in 2009, has been filming for the programme alongside fellow ex-contestant Chris Daughtry.

They have teamed up with former judge Randy Jackson to help Idol's wannabe stars hone their art in a special workshop.

An episode aired last night (February 18) which introduced Lambert's mentor role on the show, with more due to follow tonight (February 19) and Thursday (February 20).

The vocal powerhouse tweeted yesterday: "Be sure to Tune into @AmericanIdol tonight! Check me mentoring alongside @YO_RANDYJACKSON and @CHRIS_Daughtry."

An official preview video meanwhile of Lambert speaking about what his role entails has also surfaced.
