Adam Lambert on his dramatic look: 'I was hiding behind that a little bit'

Vocal powerhouse Adam Lambert has opened up about his sense of style and reveals that while he may have changed his look over the past year, he had a reason for dressing dramatically when he first appeared on the scene.

During a brand new interview with Notion magazine, the 'Ghost Town' singer confessed that his dramatic look was a result of his initial perception of artists as he thought it was important to be distinctive, but at the same time he wanted something to 'hide behind':

“On the one hand, maybe I thought that's what I had to do to be an artist, but there was also a part of me that was terrified, which was kind of hiding behind that a little bit. All of the make-up and the crazy clothes and all the over the top stuff... it's kind of a defence mechanism in a way.”

He also opened up about his forthcoming new album, 'The Original High', and confessed that it's a darker record than his previous offerings: "[The album is] dance-y but bittersweet, and the lyrics are a little darker [than they have been, previously]. I've done the more bubblegum stuff, I've done the camp stuff, and now I want to encourage people to face their shit. I want to show them the part of me that's not all polished or [still part of] the 'pageant on TV' thing – I want it to be real, you know?”
