Adam Lambert thinks American Idol has had an "amazing run".

The singer found fame on the TV show when he finished runner-up on its 2009 series.

However, the programme will have its last season in early 2016.

Speaking to SoJO, Lambert said that he feels the time may be right for it to finish.

However, he believes American Idol will always be a "benchmark".

He said: "I think it's like anything - things run their course. Like a relationship, or a lot of other TV shows. TV shows come to an end.

"They had an amazing run, they've really changed the business and the face of television. I think that show will always be a big milestone, because it spawned a lot of other similar shows.

"I think it launched my career, so I'm very thankful."
