Brian May can't get enough of Adam Lambert and vice versa

Friday 13 May was lucky for some, as Brian May received The LGBT Award for Celebrity Straight Ally from his colleague and close friend, Adam Lambert.

May jumped onto the stage at London's New Connaught Rooms and his first words were those of praise for Lambert.

He called him: 'this extraordinary man who i'm proud to say I'm about to share a stage with at all the European festivals and at the Isle of Wight. I'm so glad that Adam came into my life.'

May then went on to honour his own mother. He said:

'This is going to sound very 'Oscars' but I would like to thank my mum, because in my mum's company there was never any question that anyone would be treated any differently if they were different colour, different race, different religion, different sexual proclivities or whatever. It was unthinkable.

'That's the way I grew up. I didn't even know the names of anything that was different. So I kind of graduated smoothly into being a hippie of which I'm proud of, and we grew up around Kensington Market in those days.

'I remember when Roger, and John and Freddie and myself were sitting round trying to choose a name for our band. We ended up choosing a name, something that was very glorious and glamorous, if you like but also something that represented that we felt it that didn't matter what we were like, didn't matter who we fell in love with, it didn't matter what race.

'The name Queen, believe it or not, embodies all of that for us.

'I am very thrilled and very touched. This means a lot to me. This will be very proudly displayed on my mantlepiece. I will always be your friend and I will always be an LGBT ally.'

Prior to announcing Brian May as the winner of the Award, Lambert told the packed room that May was 'one the most empathetic people I ever met in my life, cares about all the people from every country, cares about all the main things, animals, you name it, is the most purest hearted person i have met in a very long time

Adam Lambert won The British LGBT Music Icon Award in 2015.

Queen teams up with Lambert for series of European concerts and festival appearances starting this week spanning a total of 15 countries. The first being later this week on May 20 in Portugal. The last concert will be in Italy on June 25.

In-between these two shows they will be playing Spain, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Sweden, UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria.
