Adele has beaten Coldplay in this week's UK albums chart battle

Adele has retained her place at the top of the UK albums chart despite strong competition from Coldplay.

The singer's album '25' has now spent a third week at No.1 in the country after selling a massive 354,000 in the last seven days.

The Official Charts Company revealed today (December 11) that Coldplay's new record 'A Head Full of Dreams' sold 236,000 units - their biggest first week sales since 2008’s 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends'.

At No.3 on the albums chart is Elvis Presley's 'If I Can Dream', while Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' drops one place to No.4.

Completing the top five this week is Jess Glynne's 'I Cry When I Laugh'.

Fleur East is a new entry at No.14 with her debut album 'Love, Sax and Flashbacks', while Kylie Minogue’s 'Christmas' rises eight places to No.18.

Sigma's first album 'Life' meanwhile enters at No.28.
