Adele takes home songwriter of the year at Ivor Novello awards

The winners of this year's Ivor Novello Awards have now been announced and Adele took home the songwriter of the year accolade at the event in London.

The Ivor Novellos are voted for by songwriters, with judges this year including the likes of Alison Moyet, Sharleen Spiteri, Wretch 32, Cathy Dennis, Joan Armatrading, Guy Chambers and Charlotte Church.

Adele was unable to attend the ceremony, having just performed in Switzerland last night, but sent a video message to express her gratitude: "I won it on my last album as well... but I was secretly pregnant, so I didn't enjoy the night too well. To win it this time is truly, truly humbling."

Damon Albarn, of Blur fame, won the lifetime achievement award and the best song musically and lyrically went to 'Wasn't Expecting That' by Jamie Lawson, who told the audience he would be "forever grateful" to the "ginger kitten" Ed Sheeran for helping him launch his music career.

James Bay's 'Hold Back The River' won most performed work, best contemporary song went to 'All My Friends' by Snakehips ft Tinashe & Chance The Rapper, and PRS for Music special international award was given to iconic musician Bryan Adams.
