Adele reigns over the albums chart

Adele is clinging on to her number 1 position in the UK albums chart with her sophomore record, '21', the midweek chart update confirmed.

The Official Charts Company explained this afternoon (February 16) that it's soaring ahead of its competition:

"The leader of the albums market is Adele’s 21 album, which has now exceeded 500,000 sales after just 24 days – and continues to outsell its biggest competitor by almost three times."

Bruno Mars' 'Doo Wops & Hooligans' and Rihanna's 'Loud' are both non-movers at 2 and 3 respectively, whilst PJ Harvey has entered the UK albums chart at the midweek point at 4 with 'Let England Shake'. Adele's debut record, '19', has moved up a position to number 5 and there are no other new entries in the top ten.
