Adele tops mid-year sales chart

Vocal powerhouse Adele has become the first artist to sell more than a million copies of an album in this decade, the Official Charts Company has confirmed.

Her record-breaking sophomore album managed to beat Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' and Rihanna's 'Loud' to the title, selling more than 2.6 million copies. In an equally impressive feat, Adele's debut album '19' came in second on the mid-year sales chart, shifting 800,000 copies.

Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company's managing director, said in a statement:

"With an almost certain Mercury Music Prize nomination and 21's first Christmas season to come, I suspect her record-breaking antics are not over yet."
