Adele may have won 2 BRIT Awards at the prestigious ceremony this evening, February 21, but her second win of the night will now be remembered for all the wrong reasons. 

The first prize, British Female of the Year, was presented to her just after the event had started at around 8.15pm BST and she was also confirmed as the winner of the Mastercard Album of the Year title, but her acceptance speech for the trophy was both interrupted and cut short to make way for Blur's closing set. 

James Corden, the ceremony's host, interjected mid-speech and asked her to stop before the cameras cut straight to the Brit-pop band. Corden has since spoken out about the incident, which became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, and explained:

"I felt bad about cutting Adele off, don't know why I was made to... To cut Adele off before she had a chance to say thank you. Don't understand what happened. She's incredible. Blur gets to play for 11 minutes and she gets to say thank you once, I don't quite understand."

Addressing her rude gesture during the press conference following the BRITs, Adele admitted that she gave the middle finger to the organisers because of their poor sense of timing and lack of respect:

"I was cut off during my speech but I wanted to thank the British public for all their support. I was held up with my voice and troubles but the album kept walking without me. I flipped the bird for the suits at the BRITs who cut me off. Sorry if I offended anyone but it was for them, not for the fans."
