Adele's 21 album tops US iTunes chart

Adele's Grammy award-winning record has been named the top-selling album in the US for 2012.

The singer's second album, '21', was also the fourth bestseller in the UK iTunes chart of the year with Emeli Sande's 'Our Version of Events' hitting the top spot.

Following its release last year, 21, saw Adele win Grammy Awards in six categories in February.

In the US chart, the 24-year-old just beat Taylor Swift's album 'Red', followed closely by Mumford & Sons' 'Babel.'

She has also bagged nominations for the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe for her James Bond theme song 'Skyfall', which producers said took her ten minutes to record.

The top-selling iTunes track in the US this year was 'Call Me Maybe' by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen.
