Adele's '21' best selling album in US for second year running

Adele's monolithic '21' has been named as the best selling album of 2012 in the US.

The British singer sold 4.4 million copies of her album over the last 12 months in the country - despite it being released in February 2011.

This means that the record is the best selling in the US for the second year running - the first time that has happened since Nielsen SoundScan started collating data in 1991.

Naturally, it has seen its sales decrease slightly in 2012, with the album raking in 5.8 million units in 2011.

Taylor Swift's hit record 'Red' was second on the 2012 list with 3.1 million sales.

Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know' meanwhile was named as America's top selling single, shifting 6.8 million downloads over the year.
