Adele to receive MBE from the Queen

'Someone Like You' superstar Adele has been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for her services to music and will attend a special ceremony at London's Buckingham Palace later this week to receive an MBE.

Her new title will be Miss Adele Adkins MBE, which stands for Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and she will be at the palace this coming Thursday, December 19.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that her sophomore record, entitled '21', is Amazon's best-selling album of all time and former UK Prime Minister John Major recently praised her for helping give weight to the country's cultural credibility: "We've had over 20 British albums top the charts in countries around the world."

"It's not just the established stars like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. You have Adele, One Direction, Susan Boyle. Wherever you go, they're household names and they have an implication for perception and thus soft power."
