Songwriter Gerry Coffin dies

The man who wrote the lyrics for classic songs such as 'Up On The Roof', 'The Locomotion', and 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?', has died aged 75.

Goffin also co-wrote Aretha Franklin's 'Your Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman'.

Whilst married to legendary singer-songwriter, Carole King, he wrote James Taylor's 'You've Got a Friend, and other classics with his wife.

The couple got married in 1959. King was 17 and Goffin was 20 years old. However, they divorced a decade later but were still inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame together in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

A play about their romance was the inspiration for a play, 'Beautiful: The Carole King Story', and won a Tony award.

King, now 72 years old, said:  “Gerry was my first love. He had a profound impact on my life and the world. His words expressed what so many people were feeling but didn’t know how to say.”
