Yeah Yeah Yeahs' surprise

To mark their tenth anniversary as a band, Yeah Yeah Yeahs surprised fans last night (September 22), with a secret show at the Secret Project Robot in New York's Brooklyn.

Tickets sold out within half an hour of going on sale at the venue's box office the day before.

The band used the one-off show to play their back catalogue, with much of the 60 minute set being made up of songs from their first two EPs and debut album, 2003’s, 'Fever To Tell'.

They also played several tracks without any of their usual touring musicians, opting instead to revisit their original live three-piece line-up.

Frontwoman Karen O gave an energetic performance, despite the extreme heat which caused a fan to pass out. To add to the celebrations, she threw confetti at the front row, before saluting the crowd and declaring, “it’s fucked up how sweet you guys are!”

Only a week earlier, the group had played another secret performance at Manhattan's Don Hills venue.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are due to continue their low-key tour of their hometown's smallest venues with their next stop expected to be the Mercury Lounge tomorrow (September 24).
