America's got Perry's back!

America has Katy Perry’s back. Take that ‘Sesame Street!'

Katy Perry is having the last laugh, make that last laughs following the hoo-hah over the not even terribly risque dress she wore to film a ‘Sesame Street’ segment.

Last week executives announced the segment would not air on 'Sesame Street' following complaints from parents that her outfit was unsuitable viewing fodder for their children. The news has proved a veritable treasure trove for comedians galore and, ultimately it seems, for Perry herself.

On Saturday (September 25) night there she was working it on the season premiere of ‘Saturday Night Live’, in a hilarious sketch called ‘Bronx Beat with Betty and Jodi’. Perry played a children’s librarian called Maureen who arrived for the show “segment” wearing glasses (of course, all librarians wear glasses) and a super-tight Elmo T-shirt slashed low in the front. She noted to Betty and Jodi - who marvelled at her boobalicious “bazooms” - that “the library told me to wear some looser-fitting clothes”.

Laughs aside, Betty and Jodi (played by ex- ’SNL’ star Amy Poehler returning as guest host and Maya Rudolph) marvelled aloud at the insanity of Americans’ being unable to “look at the tops of boobs, so dumb, sooo dumb”.

‘The Simpsons’ also chose to come out in support of Perry, releasing a wickedly clever statement to Entertainment Weekly from Al Jean, one of the show’s executive producers. “In the wake of Elmo’s terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry.” Perry filmed the Christmas-themed Simpsons episode, The Fight Before Christmas, before the 'Sesame Street' scandal broke.

Perry’s Simpsons episode will air in the US on December 5.
