1m tweets for John Lennon’s birthday

John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, has asked that 1 million wishes are tweeted to the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland, at 8:00pm (GMT) tonight.

The event is to mark what would have been Lennon’s 70 birthday.

The tower, which was opened on October 9 2007, was originally conceived by Ono and is meant to symbolise the couples continuing campaign for world peace.

From October 9 - December 8, the dates of Lennon’s birthday and death respectively, a tall shimmering light is emitted from the ‘Well’ which reaches a height of at least 4,000 metres and creates the tower. Written on the ‘Well’ are the words “Imagine Peace”, in 24 different languages.

You can watch live footage of the tower on the Imagine Peace Tower's official site.
