Lisa Marie Presley on Michael Jackson’s death
Lisa Marie Presley has revealed that she is still haunted by ex-husband Michael Jackson’s sudden death last year.
In her first (and allegedly last) in-depth interview since Jackson died in June 2009, Presley told Oprah Winfrey that she believes she could have helped him turn his life around.
Presley shocked the world when she – the daughter of the King of Rock and Roll – married Jackson, the King of Pop, in 1994. However the couple split in 1996 with Presley citing irreconcilable differences.
In the TV special, which will air today (October 21), Presley says: “I know that it’s naive to think that I could have [saved him] but I wanted to. Had I made a call, had I stopped being so shut off from him, had I just said, ‘How are you?’ I really regret that I didn’t."
However, she adds, the tragedy may have been simply inevitable: “I think that was a train headed in a certain direction that I don’t know if anyone could have stopped and I’ve had to really get my head around that in order to stop the pain.”
