Celine Dion has given birth prematurely to twins.

The superstar, 42, had the twins by caesarean section shortly after 11:00am at a Florida hospital on Saturday (October 23). 

The Canadian-born singer and her husband Rene Angelil, who also have a 9-year-old son, gave the news to TV host Julie Snyder yesterday afternoon (October 24).

A spokesperson for Dion, and her anxious husband, delivered the following statement: “Celine, Rene and their son Rene-Charles are thrilled. The babies were born healthy but premature and will spend the next few days in an incubator."

The singer was hospitalised earlier this month, amid warnings from her doctors to prevent premature delivery.

Dion is set to return to Ceasar’s Palace in March 2011 for a three-year residency.
