Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood's son burning £5m collection

Joe Corré, the son of the late Malcolm McLaren and British fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood, is planning to burn his entire £5m punk memorabilia collection.

He is set to do so in Camden on November 26, and encouraging others to do the same. November 26 will be the 40th anniversary of punk.

Corré is the well-known tycoon and co-founder of the luxury and risqué lingerie brand, Agent Provocateur. The brand was acquired by 3i, the private equity firm, for £60m.

In a press release about his plan, Corré said: "The Queen giving 2016, the Year of Punk, her official blessing is the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard. Talk about alternative and punk culture being appropriated by the mainstream. Rather than a movement for change, punk has become like a fucking museum piece or a tribute act."

"A general malaise has now set in amongst the British public. People are feeling numb. And with numbness comes complacency. People don't feel they have a voice anymore. The most dangerous thing is that they have stopped fighting for what they believe in. They have given up the chase. We need to explode all the shit once more."

The 'Punk London' event has received a lottery grant of £99,000, and also involves Rough Trade and The Roundhouse.

Malcolm McLaren passed away in 2010 at the age of 64 from asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma. His partner, Young Kim, believes his famous King's Road punk design shop, Sex, was contaminated with asbestos when he worked there 30 years ago.

He was originally misdiagnosed at Harley Street but went to Switzerland for further treatment.
