Glee Tops Charts With 'Teenage Dream'


GLEE #2 MOST HOT 100 ENTRIES BEHIND ELVIS

NEW YORK, Nov. 18, 2010 -- The music from Fox's smash hit Glee has reached another amazing milestone this week with their rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" debuting at #1 in digital track sales.  This is the first time a Glee track has landed at #1, the cast's version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" reached #2 on digital track sales charts in May 2009.  With an impressive 214,000 tracks sold, "Teenage Dream" has the highest debut week sales of any Glee track to date.  

The Glee cast surpasses James Brown this week for the #2 most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  Last month Billboard magazine reported that Glee had replaced The Beatles for the #3 most entries on their Hot 100 chart, with James Brown at #2 with 91 entries.  This week 3 new Glee songs appear on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, taking their grand total of entries to 93.  According to Billboard, only Elvis Presley has more entries than Glee with a total of 108 entries on their Hot 100 chart.  

This week is shaping up to be another great week for Glee as their versions of Cee-Lo's "Forget you" and their mash-up of "Singing In The Rain/Umbrella" immediately soared to the #1 and #2 respectively on iTunes Top Songs chart.  This week also marks the release of Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album which features the Glee cast's unique take on twelve holiday classics including a special appearance by kd lang.  This special Glee Christmas episode airs Tuesday, December 7, at 8:00 pm et/pt on Fox.  Glee: The Music, Volume 4, a collection of 18 memorable tracks including "Empire State Of Mind," "Stronger" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand," will be available on Tuesday November 30.  

To date over 17 million Glee songs have been digitally downloaded, with over 6.5 million albums sold worldwide.  Glee scored three consecutive #1 releases with Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers, Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna andGlee: The Music, Journey To Regionals.  The RIAA has certified Glee: The Music, Volume 1 Platinum (sales in excess of 1 million units) as well as Glee: The Music, Volume 2 and Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Gold (sales in excess of 500,000 units).
