Alicia Keys didn't realise she needed Prince's consent for a song until he called her

Alicia Keys told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this week that she didn't realise she had to 'clear' a song before she could cover it in a live set until one day when she heard that Prince.

After singing his song, 'How Come You Don't Call Me', during her residency at the 'W' hotel in Manhattan, she was told he needed to speak to her.

She waited in her hotel room for the call. It came and she had to speak to eight people before she finally was put through to Prince himself.

On the show, Keys also wowed the TV audience with amazing impersonations of Adele and Gwen Stefani.

Backed by the house band Questlove and The Roots, Keys sang Adele's 'Hello' and Stefani's 'Miss Mary Mack'.

Fallon sang The Pointer Sisters' 'Automatic.
