Shawn Mendes kicks off UK leg of his Illuminate tour at The SSE Hydro

Shawn Mendes kicked off the UK leg of his Illuminate World Tour in Glasgow this bank holiday.

The Canadian singer-songwriter opened the night with 'There’s Nothing Holding Me Back,' then proceeded to belt out hit after hit at the SSE Hydro, whilst his fans screamed their lungs out and kept their mobile phones on torch mode throughout, singing along to all of the lyrics.

Mendes is scheduled to return to the UK later this year to perform at London's O2 in June and to perform in Dublin, Ireland, at the end of this month in support of his album, "Illuminate, which he released last September.

The record features his hit single, “Treat You Better, which shot straight to No. 1 in 36 countries.

It marked the star’s second Top 10 UK hit, following the release of “Stitches, which was No. 1 on the UK Official Charts for two weeks.

At just 18 years old, his powerful sound and raw songwriting has lead him to be named as Forbes '30 Under 30' in 2016, The People’s Choice Awards 'Favourite New Artist' 2016 and one of Time Magazine’s 'Most Influential Teens' of 2014 and 2015.
