Portugal has won the Eurovision Song Contest for the very first time.

Performed by Salvador Sobral and written by his sister, the song is called 'Amar Pelos Dois'.

On accepting the award, Sobral said:

"We live in a world of fast food music. This is a victory for music... music isn't fireworks, music is feeling."

Sobral has a serious heart condition that made him miss the first week of rehearsals. His sister joined him on stage for a duet for the show's finale.

Sobral had never watched the show before.

The competition took place in Kiev and will now take place in Portugal next year.
