The organisers of Little Mix's performance at Newmarket Racecourse last Friday (June 23) have apologized after being slammed by parents for the "appalling" event.

The gig, which was part of the course's Newmarket Nights event reportedly became chaotic after drunken racegoers among the tens of thousands shoved their way through the crowd and others started fighting, causing some younger concert-goers to feel "unsafe".

Parents took to Twitter to complain that the chaos triggered 'panic attacks' in their children and said that some of them even experienced trauma and were left bruised and injured. One of the parents, Jay Unsworth, said:

"I'm disgusted by how it was last night. My little girl got hit on the head by a flying bottle. I had to fight my way out as she was bleeding and screaming. I'm seeking legal action."

Amy Starkey, managing director of Newmarket Racecourse, told the Racing Post: "Unfortunately there were a small number of people who didn't behave in the way we would expect.

"They were dealt with and ejected from the course as we had a strong police presence and a record number of security.

"We'll be conducting a review of what happened on Friday and meet with our security advisory group to do a full investigation."

Ms Starkey continued: "We had 22,000 people last night on site to watch racing and Little Mix perform after racing.

"The team and I remain absolutely committed to ensuring that anybody that comes to enjoy racing and or music has a good experience, and if for whatever reason that experience isn't in line with their expectation, then I apologise.

"We also had our local authority safety advisory group last night conducting a full inspection, and of course we will review the event in its entirety and look to improve based on customer feedback.
