Taylor Swift being sued over her 2014 hit song "Shake It Off"

Taylor Swift is facing being sued over her 2014 hit song "Shake It Off".

The law suit has been filed by the successful songwriting duo Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who claim she ripped off their 2001 song, "Playas Gon’ Play". The two have previously worked with big names such as Justin Bieber and P!nk.

The songwriters are reportedly citing a similarity in the lyrics used as a foundation for their case.

The song written by the pair reached No. 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was recorded by the popular American girl group 3LW. It came 89th in a recent list of the 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.

Meanwhile, Swift’s "Shake It Off" debuted at No. 1 and went on to achieve three Grammy nominations.

The lyrics to the songwriters' track include: “Playas, they gonna play / And haters, they gonna hate / Ballers, they gonna ball / Shot callers, they gonna call.”

Swift’s 2014 song lyrics include: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play / And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate / Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off.”

A representative for Swift has since told TMZ that it is nothing more than a “money grab," saying:

“This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case".
