Anna Nicole Smith: the opera

An opera based on the life of Anna Nicole Smith, the waitress who married a billionaire, will receive its world premiere next month in London.

Composer, Mark-Anthony Turnage, was commissioned by The Royal Opera House to create an opera on a contemporary topic, and so created 'Anna Nicole'.

Smith was originally named Vicki Lynn Hogan, and married the oil billionaire J Howard Marshall II whom she met whilst working as a lap-dancer. He was 89 and she was 26.

Smith died aged 39 in 1997.

A promotional brochure produced by the Royal Opera House warns that the opera will contain "extreme language, drug abuse and sexual content".

Anna Nicole, the opera premieres at the Royal Opera House on February 17 and runs until March 4.
