Sofia Carson on Me to We Kenya trip: "I saw the true face of girl power”

Sofia Carson may have just finished filming Descendants 3 last month but she hasn't stood still.

Recently the big-hearted actress and pop star paid a visit to Kenya in Africa during a voluntary trip with We.org as part of their Me to We campaign, in order to bring attention to the importance of getting an education.

Carson said: "I’ve been following the work of the WE Movement for a few years now and I’ve been wanting to get involved in any way that I could.

“I think my biggest takeaway would definitely be to see first-hand the power of an education. It is something that I will take with me wherever I go in for the rest of my life. I always knew that when I had this platform I was going to educate young girls and do whatever I could to give them the education that I was so lucky to be blessed with. But to meet them and to see firsthand the difference that they’re making, to see what it truly means to change someone’s life, is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”

Uploading a video clip onto Instagram (see below), the star added: "When I asked them what they wanted to do after they graduated, Tiffany (the beautiful girl to my left) said: “I’m going to become president of Kenya".

"Anicia (the beautiful girl standing right beside Tiffany) said: “I’m going to become a lawyer, but I’m also a great rapper. So I’m going to be an entertainment lawyer AND a rapper”.

"And there is no part of me that doubts that these girls will do exactly that.

"This is the incomparable power of education. In their eyes, I saw the true face of girl power."

According to We.org's website, ME to WE provide authentic products and experiences that make an impact.

ME to WE’s 20-year social mission has given them great insight and ideas on how to create an innovative social enterprise.

Half of all ME to WE profits are donated to WE Charity, with the remainder being reinvested to ensure sustainability.
