Violet Skies who is receiving support through the Writer Producer Fund said, “The Writer Producer Fund provided to me by the lovely PRS Foundation and BASCA Trust is a career-changing amount of money that will allow me to continue writing where I’m needed, with no financial barriers. I work all over the world and this will allow me to continue doing so, as well as allowing me to run sheWrites, not-for-profit all female writing camps, internationally.”

Bhavesh Patel, Programme Manager at PRS Foundation said, “We have already seen many of the writers we’ve supported through this fund going on to work on big tracks, and a few sign major publishing deals. Supporting these behind-the-scenes writers and producers at a tipping point means they can realise their full potential and allowing UK writers to put their imprint on the worldwide music market.

Silvina Munich, a trustee of the BASCA Trust said, “We are delighted to continue our partnership with PRS Foundation through the Writer Producer Fund. The standard and quality of music produced by the writers supported through this scheme is very high and we are proud of them. With much attention focused on performers, the writers of popular music often go unrecognized and it can be difficult for them to find support. With the Writer Producer Fund we are able to shine a light on the songwriters and producers who have tremendous potential but need extra financial help and development support. It’s also great to see networking and collaboration between alumni grantees as this helps strengthen the writer community with professional support and creative opportunities”

The Writer Producer Fund is a ground-breaking new opportunity for songwriters and writer-producers working in popular music genres to further develop their careers and writing/production credits with grants of up to £10,000.

PRS Foundation and the BASCA Trust have initiated this fund in response to the fact that songwriters and writer-producers have not benefited from dedicated grants or major funding programmes of this kind in spite of their role at the centre of the music industry creating the content which drives its success. This new fund recognises the importance of songwriters and writer-producers and aims to support the most talented songwriters and writer-producers to realise their potential.

The next deadline is 3rd December 2018. Applications can be made through the PRS Foundation website where applicants will need to submit at least five of their works as examples. Writer Producer Fund support can include, recording costs, costs relating to songwriter camps/ co-writes/ collaboration, musician fees, creative / professional development, UK studio space rent, training / skills courses, marketing and promotional costs related to songs/tracks reaching an audience, international activity that could build your profile and benefit your creative development (other than international conference events which can be covered by the International Showcase Fund) and project related maternity or child care costs.
