• The Radcliffe And Maconie Show to launch on digital radio station BBC 6 Music from Monday 4 April

• Nemone to present 6 Music Weekend Breakfast Show from Saturday 9 April

• Stuart Maconie to continue to present Freakzone on 6 Music and a new 50-part authored history of pop for Radio 2 in 2012

• Mark Radcliffe to present new Radio 2 show

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie will move from BBC Radio 2 to BBC 6 Music from Monday 4 April 2011 to host the weekday 1-4pm show.

The programme will become an integral part of 6 Music's daytime schedule and will reflect the rich relationship that the station has with Manchester and music from the North of England. Guests from the world of culture and music, regular features (such as The Chain) and music news will comprise much of the programme's editorial, as well as dialogue and interaction with its audience via social media, email and text.

The music of The Radcliffe And Maconie Show will feature 6 Music heritage artists such as Massive Attack, The Smiths, David Bowie and Blur, with burgeoning new talent like The Vaccines, Field Music and War Paint.

Bob Shennan, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, comments: "This is another big moment in the history of 6 Music. Mark and Stuart's arrival will help us build on the phenomenal success of the past 12 months."

Mark will also launch a new weekly show on Radio 2 on Tuesday nights from 11pm-12midnight, featuring a distinctive and eclectic selection of new and classic music from Mark's own record vaults.

Mark says: "Moving to 6 Music is a wonderful opportunity for Stuart and I to be part of the digital radio revolution and also the establishment of MediaCityUK in Salford. We feel like we have signed up to the future in a big way. The music policy of 6 is right up our street with its blend of heritage tracks and emerging new talent.

"We also look forward to stretching its musical remit even further by continuing to make our playlist as all-embracing and eclectic as it has been on our evening show. I'm also thrilled to have got off working 'nights', although anticipate with some trepidation helping my kids with homework that will almost certainly be beyond the meagre limits of my knowledge."

Stuart joined 6 Music in its infancy in 2002, and he'll continue to present Freak Zone (Sun, 6-8pm) and Freakier Zone (Sat 12midnight-1am), a duo of shows that reach far and wide both inside and, occasionally, outside the musical spectrum.

Stuart comments: "6 Music provides a priceless service to its legions of fans and I'm happy to be joining the merry bandwagon of joy. The usual inane banter will remain, the only difference will be the hour – let there be light!"

Stuart has also won a new commission to present an authored story of pop in a series of documentaries for Radio 2, to broadcast in 2012.

The Radcliffe And Maconie Show was launched on Radio 2 from BBC Manchester in April 2007 and was produced by independent radio production company Smooth Operations. The programme swiftly gained a loyal army of fans who embraced their eclectic mix of live sessions, clever and irreverent guests and cheeky listener interaction. Last year, the duo broke out of their Mancunian environs to walk England's Jurassic Coast Walk, with artists such as Squeeze and Fisherman's Friends joining them on their epic journey.

Nemone will move from her weekday lunchtime slot to launch a new 6 Music weekend breakfast show between 7-10am, from Saturday 9 April 2011, which will be an independent radio production.

Radcliffe and Maconie have been bestowed with many industry awards. They won the gold award for Music Broadcasters of the Year at the Sony Radio Awards in 2009. In the same year, Mark won a gold award for comedy as producer of Count Arthur Song's Radio Show! and Stuart Maconie's Freakzone for 6 Music was a finalist in the Specialist Music Programme.

In 2010, The Radcliffe And Maconie Show won a bronze award at the 2010 Sony Radio Academy Awards for Best Music Programme and, in 2009, it won the Broadcasting Press Guild award for Best Radio Show.

Mark Radcliffe joined the BBC in 1983 as a Radio 1 producer, where he produced the John Peel Show. After leaving to become Head of Music at Piccadilly Radio, he returned to the BBC producing shows such as Radio 2's The Organist Entertains. The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, with Marc Riley, beckoned in 1997, which evolved into Mark presenting the afternoon show for nearly seven years, picking up three Sony Awards on the journey. In 2004, Mark moved to host a Radio 2 late night show for which he collected further Sony nominations.

Stuart was, and is, a successful TV presenter, journalist and author and his books have made him Britain's best-selling travel writer. He was assistant editor of NME and joined Radio 1 in the mid-Nineties as a music reporter, becoming a Radio 2 presenter in 1998 hosting All Singing, All Dancing All Night – a northern soul music show and Stuart Maconie's Critical List. In 2001, Stuart won the Sony Radio Award for Music Broadcaster of the Year. Stuart has also penned the official biographies of James and Blur.

The Radcliffe And Maconie Show on 6 Music will be an independent production, initially from the Corporation's Oxford Road base and then from the MediaCityUK, the BBC's Salford studios in Manchester.

Mark Radcliffe's new Radio 2 Tuesday evening programme will also be an independent production.

The tenders have been issued to independent radio production companies.
