TAYLOR SWIFT LEADS 2019 AMAS WITH SIX AWARDS

Taylor Swift led the winners at this year's American Music Awards (AMAs), taking home an astounding total of six.

The enormously talented and hardworking superstar was deservingly honored with the presitigous Artist of the Decade and Artist of the Year, as well as Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album for Lover, Favorite Music Video for You Need to Calm Down, and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist.

This means Swift has now made history by surpassing the late Michael Jackson's record of 24 wins, with an all-time total herself of 29.

Winning Artist of the Year was historic in itself for Swift, since it was her fifth victory, extending a record she already held for the most wins in that category. Putting it into perspective, the other biggest winners in the category are Justin Bieber and One Direction, who only won the top prize themselves twice.

As she accepted her final awards of the night, the chart-topping star reflected on the "complicated" year that she has gone through, admitting that it's been filled with lots of ups and downs.

Speaking on stage at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theatre, Swift said:

"The last year of my life has had some of the most amazing times and also some of the hardest things I've gone through in my life, and not a lot of them are things that haven't been public.

"And I wanted to thank you so much for being the thing that has been a constant in my life.

"Like, this industry is really weird. You feel like your stock is either up or down and people either like you or they don't, or you're feeling bad about yourself. But the people that hang in there for you are the ones that you will never forget.

"This year for me has been a lot. It's been a lot of good, a lot of really complicated. And so on behalf of my family and me, thank you so much for being there and for caring."

Elsewhere at the ceremony, Khalid won three awards, while there were two wins apiece for Billie Eilish, Carrie Underwood and Dan + ShayBTS also scooped three prizes but were unable to attend the glitzy ceremony.

The evening was hosted by Ciara, whilst performers included: Camila Cabello, Halsey, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, KeshaLizzo, Green Day, Toni Braxton and country icon and six-time AMA winner, Shania Twain.

Swift marked her Artist of the Decade win by performing an unforgettable medley of her global hits.
