Agust D becomes first solo Korean artist to land UK Top 10 album

Agust D, better known as Suga [Yoongi] from BTS, has made new chart history by landing at No. 7 in this week's UK Albums chart [Friday, May 29] with his new free mixtape, D-2

This means Suga can today celebrate becoming the first solo Korean artist in history to land a UK Top 10 album.

As well as that, D-2 also now holds the record for the biggest album debut week on Spotify by any Korean soloist with +42.9 million streams.

The rapper and producer's new mixtape dominated the iTunes charts and went to No. 1 in its first week on Friday [May 22], as well as occupying all No. 2-11 slots with his other songs. Additionally, his song “Daechwita” hit No. 2 on iTunes songs, whilst the album led the Top 10 and Top 20 packed with new releases.

"Daechwita" is the second track on the mixtape, and includes traditional Korean themes with a sample from a pre-existing Daechwita, a genre of traditional Korean military music. BTS bandmates Jungkook and Jin appear in the music video which has already reached a staggering 56.7 million [at time of writing] views on YouTube.

Suga is known to keep a fairly low-profile and has often said that if he weren’t in the spotlight with his fellow megastar BTS members, he would still like to be a producer, so D-2 has definitely allowed him that creative outlet.

Given that the South Korean septet would have been completing their US tour if it were not for the ongoing pandemic, Agust D's D-2 has been such an appreciated surprise this month for ARMY worldwide.
