Lou Reed and Ryuichi Sakamoto to play benefit gigs

The Japan Society, a cultural institute in midtown Manhattan, will play host to the April 9 concert which was put together largely by John Zorn, the jazz fusion artist who has performed extensively in Japan.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, the Japanese composer known for his electropop outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and his work on movies including Bernardo Bertolucci's 'The Last Emperor'  and 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence', will headline a separate evening set.

The Japan Society said it would sell £61 ($100) tickets for attendance at either set, along with £3 ($5) tickets for admission to a variety of other events including lessons in the art of origami paper folding.

The Japan Society said that all proceeds would go to its earthquake relief fund, which has already raised more than £613,000 ($1 million).
